Well, I thought I'd give this a try:
I live in South Carolina and recently bought a nicely preserved 1978 Corvette from a gentleman in Myrtle Beach, SC. He didn't quite know who the original owner was, but did give me a box of tail lights (the original ones) along with several other original items belonging to the car. On the box is a description of the AfterMarket Tail Lights and the post mark is dated April 2, 1981 which was shipped from Eckler's Corvette and addressed to:

McLean, VA 22101
Apparently Mr. Payne worked there and used that address for receiving. I would just love to locate Mr. Payne to learn some history on this car--and to let him know "what ever happened to his Vette"
I'm sure he would be surprised to know it has survived all these years and the condition it is in. I called information in McLean, VA and the only listing was a Jack L. Payne. I called that number and spoke to a nice lady who said her husband never owned a Corvette, but wished me luck. I tried the DMV when I transferred the title, but they wouldn't give me ANY information on previous owners because of some law here in South Carolina (something to do with the Patriot Act or something like that, I think).
If anyone can help or point me in the right direction I would so much appreciate it! Thanks!!

I'm sure he would be surprised to know it has survived all these years and the condition it is in. I called information in McLean, VA and the only listing was a Jack L. Payne. I called that number and spoke to a nice lady who said her husband never owned a Corvette, but wished me luck. I tried the DMV when I transferred the title, but they wouldn't give me ANY information on previous owners because of some law here in South Carolina (something to do with the Patriot Act or something like that, I think).
