Just doing some research and trying to find out if there is an area in VA that is popular with IT positions. Thanks in advance.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say it's a bad time to be entering the I.T. arena in the entire Northern Virginia area. Don't rule out central Virginia (Richmond), or Southwest Virginia (Blacksburg). You'd make less in SWVA but the money you earned would go much further in SWVA and you'd "feel" richer. The challenge that many young I.T. people face is they have big dreams of living in a big city, and thus they rule out small cities and big towns. Meanwhile some I.T. companies in small cities and big towns are starving for I.T. workers.

You might be best to look at online job listings to see where the jobs are. I agree with Seanpecor, Northern Va will have a glut of IT Talent looking out looking for work.

I've been thinking about doing IT contract work in the DC area - do you think this is a bad time for that? Have there been alot of IT layoffs in the NOVA / DC area lately?
