Lynchburg featured in "Where to Retire"
New issue. Nice article on growing attraction of area to retirees. Article not available online. Mentioned how friendly people were. Forgot to include Lynchburg College in list of local colleges.

I've heard this too before but WHY would Lynchburg be popular for retirement??
1. Little or nothing to do, even for a retiree
2. Doesnt have the greatest weather, lotta rain and frequent gloominess
3. The city itself holds no attractions
Direct them to a coastal area somewhere,

Coastal Area--Hurricanes, high insurance, high prices for everything. After a month going to the beach is boring and there is little else to do.
With four colleges in the area there are plenty of cheap things for retirees to enjoy--plays , concerts, speakers, sports--too many in number to see evgen half the events and the costs are very low or free.
Restaurants--more than enough
Bars and clubs--a few but enough and few seniors are big partiers anyway
Movies--New multiscreen nearly done will boost that area to excellent.
Shopping-plenty and more all the time. New specialty fish, meat, cooking and art stores.
Golf/tennis/boating--all nearby
Weather--pretty normal for the area with mountains blocking many storms. Better than Cville.
Crime--not bad at all
COL--still very reasonable with great housing affordable housing and taxes.
Economy--stable to potentialy very strong if nuclear power heats up.

Oh, all of that was good to know. We know very little about Lynchburg (I'm from Danville originially) and my hubby just applied to a job there this week. We are crossing our fingers he'll get a call! Sounds like a very nice place!
