transfer from Wburg to C'ville.. need info on C'ville (Hampton: real estate market, apartments)

Hello everyone. Heard last week that the office where I work in Hampton is closing and we are being relocated to Charlottesville. I currently live in Williamsburg near Busch Gardens and would need to sell and move to C'ville. Would like any input on the C'ville area to help me make this decision and accept the relocation package.

concerns are what is the apartment situation in the C'ville area for older professionals, with one cat. I'm currently trying to gauge the real estate market as a seller in W'burg. (seems like i bought when it was a sellers market and sell when its a buyers market) talking with r/e agents in the area. Right now, after being here in Va for only 3 years, I'm unsure to buy again.

I have a client who's home I just sold in ST Georges Hundred. Due to the fact that my crystal ball is not functioning at present, my advice to them was to try to find a rent/ with option to purchase. Most agents won't like them because they might not get paid. There are a few desperate sellers who will rent at a discounted rate. If you can get them to agree to an option to purchase in one year it will protect you in case the market goes up or down. If it's up you can buy at the predetermined price, if it goes down you can simply continue to rent with no loss ! So long as you don't have a forfeitable deposit.

Hello! To buy or not to buy... well, this really depends on your specific situation. How long do you think you will be staying in Charlottesville?
As for rental options, there is a lot to choose from, single family homes in and outside town, apartments and town homes. Location and amenities will dictate the price.
I enjoy living here, as this small town has much to offer for any age group.
