Default What should we see/do when considering relocating to Charlottesville?

My husband, my 2.5 year old son and I are coming to visit several cities in Virginia in early January and we plan to move within the year. We are very interested in Charlottesville and I was hoping for some advice. We are looking for a safe area to live, with great schools, and great weather/locations to be outside and active. We would want a 3-4 bedroom/2 bath house and our budget would be in the 200,000-250,000 range. We would greatly appreciate any advice on neighborhoods to consider and activities or parts of the city or near by area that we should see while we are there. Also, if anyone can recommend a good real estate agent, we were hoping to look at some houses while we are there. Thank you for your time.

If you find a 3-4 bedroom standalone house inside C'ville limits for less than $400K you'll be very fortunate. You'll probably have to look outside of town. And then the appeal of living in C'ville diminishes, at least for me.

What other cities are you considering?

Sean

Hello Ann!
Having direct insight in Charlottesville market, I do not agree with the previous statement, regarding price ranges of homes. As you might know, we are now in the buyer's market and there is a variety to choose from in your criteria. I am a mother of an eight year old and understand the importance of a good school district and home location. Please feel free to contact me directly.
My best, Tanja

My bad. There are indeed 3-4 bedroom homes for under $250K in city limits. After browsing, there seem to be quite a few. Many seem to be on the small side, or in need of some updating, but they're available. There might even be a few hidden gems.

You need to check out Lake Monticello, about 15 miles from Cville. Housing prices are far more reasonable. It's a development built around a beautiful lake. Have heard only great things about life there.

Just google it and you'll find all sorts of websites about it, some with homes for sale.
