Hello everyone,

I am in Williamsburg for the Christmas Holidays and have been talking to people that currently live here.

I am getting mixed reviews. Some people love the place and say the crime is pretty low and others say the crime is quite high.

I would like to get some opinions from people that have lived in Williamsburg, live here now or know people that live here.

Thank you.

Every city or town has crime and every city or town has an ugly section.

If you are educated at all, you will know how to avoid the ugly sections filled with crime.

In general, Williamsburg is pretty safe.

I did look it up but wanted to hear from people that live here.

I currently live in an area where the locals such as I know what really happens but it is not fully reported since our town survives from tourists.

I really like it so far. Seems like it is best to live in one of the surrounding areas and save a lot in taxes and housing.

I live in a non gated community in James City County Williamsburg. We haven't had any crime incidents ( ok a few mailboxes knocked over ) in the last 10 years.
If you are here in Williamsburg visit a local police station. Ask any questions you want about crime. As OLEO noted almost every locality in the US has some crime. It tends to be localized in specific areas. If you are considering a move here check with the police on the exact area/ neighborhoods you are thinking of. Overall compared to most other communities that I know of the rates of crime are drastically lower than most..

Lutarian made all sorts of claims about crime in Rockport TX which has little - about 5 other posters asked him to back up his claims and ... 00000000 - nothing

Williamsburg always seemed to be a pleasant place -lots of history -wish we had all those old buildings.

If you look at the types of crimes that are high in Williamsburg (Robbery, Assault, Property Crime, Larceny, and vehicle theft) I wonder if that is due to the area being a tourist destinations..are the victims of these crimes tourists or everyday citizens of the community... it would be interesting to look into that

Remember that the College of William and Mary is included in City of Williamsburg Statistics. When I look at reports posted in the paper a very high majority are around the college. Check with our local police departments both City of Williamsburg and James City County. Every time I have looked at comparisons to other areas it is extremely low.
I'm curious 540_804 where do you live currently ? How does your area compare ?
