Default Moving to work at Fort Pickett!!! Help!!!!!!!

I am a 24 year old guy moving from Maryland to work in Virginia @ Fort Pickett. From what I understand the town is really small minus the base. I was wondering how long it would take to get from the fort to Richmond. I want to live closer to an urban environment but not in Richmond. I need something in between. I want to be able to commute to work but still have access to the comforts of an urban area. I have never been to the fort and have minimal experience inside Richmond. Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated. Please be descriptive and leave details because I will have to look it up.

You might want to look at Chesterfield County, VA...specifically, in the Rt. 288/Hull Street(Rt.360) corridor. That would put you about 50 minutes from FT. Picket (tolerable commute), but still only 20 minutes (or so) from the city of Richmond. I'd personally rather live in the City, but considering your circumstances, I think this area would work nicely for you...I do believe there is an apartment complex near this area called "Hunter's ridge", you might want to check it out...good luck...

Default Cost of living

What would u guys say is the average cost of living for 2 bedroom apartments. I do not want to live in the slums, but I do not need the 4 stars either. Thanks for your input.

I grew up in Blackstone and now live in Chesterfield, so I can probably give some honest input. Gotta get dinner on the table so can't write much now, but check out the website for the local paper (Welcome to The Courier-Record Newspaper) for some info and I'll try and post more later.

I am also considering a job at Ft. Pickett. I'm concerned that it really seems to be in a rural area. Are there even restaraunts or bars in the area? Is Richmond the closest city or are some of the other places on the map at least more than the 3500 population of Blackstone? I guess it is about an hour and fifteen minute commute, are the troopers strict in the area? Thanks for your time.

Are there restaurants??? That's one of the standing jokes in town - about 18 (if you include fast food) for a town of maybe 3500. I used to commute from Blackstone to both Midlothian and Colonial Heights. It was about a 55 minute drive going 60MPH on the highway. Again, check out the above link for the local paper. Lots of information. Hope this helps.
