Default information on Haysi, VA and Hurley VA

Hi, everyone!

I'm a newbie here. I have the option of working either in Haysi or Hurley, VA. Where would be a good place to live? I am looking for an apartment, but in a nice (friendly, safe) neighborhood. How are shopping (malls, Walmart), food, and entertainment? What do people do for recreation in the area? Also, what is the job market like for an electronic technician (my husband)?

What about Pikeville? Is that within reasonable distance to Haysi and Hurley?

Any information will be helpful. Thank you.

Well, both Haysi and Hurley are very rural. Pikeville is about an hour's drive from Haysi, maybe a few minutes shorter from Hurley. To be honest, not alot of anything in either place. I'm not saying that it is bad thing, but if your used to having a mall around the corner, you won't find that here.

It has been a while the last time I was in Haysi but I was deffinitely NOT impressed. "Very rural" is an understatement :-)) Pikeville (KY) is nice - don't have any malls - as far as I know of - but have plenty of shopping opportunities around. It really grow past the last few years. I think the closest mall is in Bristol - Kinsport - etc.

Drug infested small town back woods sterotypical enviroment at its worst. Pikeville is the rich version of hillbilly haven.
