What Virginia city is Most Southern? (Richmond, Newport News: fit in, homes, pharmacy)

Lynchburg is southern..... I couldn't live there for one reason, its Jerry Falwell country.

Richmond, Petersburg, Danville, Dumfries is kind of southern.

I would catagorize Roanoke as southern. My family is from Webster Springs West Virginia and it's a different kind of mindset there, and is pretty comparable to the Roanoke area for the most part.(My aunt lives in Roanoke) It depends how you define southern? I dont see allot of NY hats in southwest or people talking really new yorkish like you would get in Northern Virginia, but you have allot of that in Richmond. So to me or the mindset of my family is pretty in line with Jackson Mississippi or an area like that.

I'd say Bristol since it is on the TN border and has a NASCAR following along with a racetrack.

Danville by location and because it's small, rural and untouched by the hordes of northerners flooding the south. It is almost exactly the same now as it was when I grew up there (except for Dan River closing). Roanoke is a close second.

Well yeah the whole southwest area of Virginia is all about Jack Daniels and Nascar.

Architectually Portsmouth. Culturally prolly somewhere like Danville or Martinsville.

I agree that those cities are all Southern.

But strangely enough, Richmond just feels to me what a Southern city should feel like. Everything about it just oozes Southern- and I do realize it has a few "Mid-Atlantic" qualities- too but overall.

I have been all over the South- to the Deep South- as well as to Nashville, Atlanta, and many places

Richmond feels more Old South than most any place I have been in the South. More Southern than Nashville or Atlanta that is for sure. I think because it was the Capital of the Confederacy for so many years has a lot to do with it. I realize Montgomery was first. Which ironically- is very much like Richmond.

LOL. I dont hear anyone in Richmond with a New York accent. Havent met one.

Richmond is much more Southern than Lynchburg.

I guess we all see things differently.
I live just outside Lynchburg and visit Richmond about 4 times a year. To me Lynchburg is much more southern.
