Try Buz and Neds in Richmond... I've also heard Q barbecue is good but haven't tried it.

In all of VA?
Maybe Pierce's Barbeque, near Williamsburg (pierces.com), or Allmans Barbeque in Fredericksburg (allmansbarbeque.com)
I've tried BBQ at a lot of places, and these would be my top two... but I've heard very good things about Buz and Ned's in Richmond, I just haven't been there yet.

I tend to end up all over the state thats why I was saying in all of VA.
Ill have to keep all these places in mind, im really picky with BBQ now a days so if I went and got ribs at TGI Fridays or something there is a great possiblity I might spit it out.
But Buz and Neds seems to be a top pick for Richmond.

In Blacksburg, the only barbecue place I've been to is Log Cabin BBQ. I wouldn't call it the best in the state, though specifically their "Smoky" sauce might be the best sauce I've had in Virginia.
Vinton (just east of Roanoke) has a great little barbecue place called the Barbecue Grill. It's probably my overall favorite.

I use to work at a resturant in my high school days in Varina (just east of Richmond) called "Chillin & Grillin Shack" I think they had the best BBQ in Va. I really miss their food. They closed a few years ago with a bunch of upset customers to follow.

When I lived in Rocky Mount, VA. Old Virginia Barbeque was pretty darn good.

You'll want to look at independant BBQ places--not the chains! As EricD said---Allman's (Fredericksburg) and Pierce's (Williamsburg) are tops! 2 entirely different styles of BBQ, tho! But both are delicious!
