Boyce, VA
We are considering relocating to Va, We are looking at Boyce or the surrounding area (Winchester, Barryville ).
We currently reside in Bethlehem, PA. We are looking for excellent schools for our 7 and 10yr old. We would like to know more about Boyce and the schools in Boyce.

Between Boyce and Millwood. Grades K - 12. Very highly regarded; the recently-elected President of Harvard University, Dr. Drew Faust, is a Powhatan School graduate.

B & B
Boyce, as likely know, is very small. You could walk from one end to the other in 5 minutes. It's unfortunate that U.S. Route 340 cuts right through the middle. The east side also has the problem with the railroad tracks, this is an active line and I imagine that people adjust differently to the noise. There's a centrally-located elementary school and a good mixture of housing types including one brand-new subdivision, typical "upscale" homes (I'm sure w/ all the bells and whistles) on tiny lots. There's also the Virginia Arboretum just across Rt. 50 - a beautiful experimental and natural area. There are lectures and college-level classes you can take there.
Berryville, IMO is growing too fast. Up to the last 4-5 years it was a very "walkable" community: schools, shops, professional services, government offices, all clustered around the downtown core. Some beautiful in-town streets and period architecture. Now, there are shiny, new vinyl subdivisions radiating farther and farther out. Still feasible for folks to walk/ride to town, but why bother walking when you could jump into your 6-ton SUV for the trip to town to pick up the Washington Post? As far as schools, I imagine they're quite good but you should check VA dept. of Education and web resources to determine test achievement, teacher-student ratio, and other metrics. One high school, Clarke County H.S. but talk of building a second down-county closer to Boyce or White Post.

Don't tell me Berryville is becoming another DC suburb?!
I remember when I was living in Philomont, VA I used to drive out there on my way to Winchester. I enjoyed it because it was like going back in time. No commerciality to it. It was a real town with real character.
