Then they are wrong.

When in Rome do as the Romans do.

Natives of the area say Loo-Ray.

Default How to pronounce Fauquier...

I live in Staunton (Stanton), and I have always heard the name pronounced faw kee ur; however, Buchanan is pronounced Buck an un - so what do I know - except that the Shenandoah Valley is beyond beautiful!!

Crimora - kri-mor-a ;however, the locals pronounce it k'mora - sliding thru the ora -k'mor - sort of. In Iowa Monticello is not pronounced with the "chello"; however, here in VA - that is how Thomas Jefferson pronounced it, and if it is good enough for Thomas, who are we to argue. Oh yes, both IA & VA mispronounce Buena Vista - Byoo na Vistuh - or a reasonable proximily (sp?) there of.

Actually Thomas Jefferson got very mad that people who came here pronounced his home Monti...cello, not chello.
I had lunch one day in the old Michie Tavern and overhead tourists from Monti..cello, New York refer to his home incorrectly, I told them the correct
pronunciation.
