I am 28 with a five year old daughter and just divorced. My daughter's godmom lives in Baltimore,MD but suggested that Williamsburg would be a good place to start over. I also have a friend in VAB. I will be finishing cosmetology and a business degree so I need a city with colleges nearby and grocery stores and malls lol. I have never been to VA at all so I'm confused about what to research or where. I want to rent or rent to buy a house for 800 or less a month and I plan to get a roommate (another female college student) once I am there. I am a salon assistant and I want to eventually open a consignment shop. I want the place I move to have small shops that could be consignment a shop when I'm ready. I really want a smaller city that is still close to civilization and within 100 miles of VAB and good for a single mom and her child. I read a thread on here that said to include all this info so I hope I didn't leave anything out or say too much. I have tried to do research on my own but I really don't know where to start and my friends have given some advice. I also want to get some places lined up to look at when I visit next month but want an idea of where I will be looking before calling about houses for rent. Thank you all for your time and I have never done one of these before so I'm kinda lost on here lol.

Williamsburg has lots of rural area around and is surrounded by "city": Newport News, Hampton etc and there is also nice living in Glouschester, York Town areas- well with in the radius you want. Lots of colleges and other schools avilable.
Good luck!

I agree about Williamsburg. Very nice area and you can find a decent apartment there.

Default Me too!

I'm doing the start-over-after-a-divorce thing too! Looking to move there with my three-year-old from Lynchburg in mid September. Have you had any luck finding a place yet? I spent last week there looking at places and can give you some #s if you want. These links might help, too, and craigslist is always a good start (craigslist: hampton roads classifieds for jobs, apartments, personals, for sale, services, community, and events).

Williamsburg Virginia Homes for sale,Williamsburg VA Rentals,Williamsburg VA Investment Property,City Green Condos Williamsburg Va, Williamsburg VA Realtor, Williamsburg Virignia Realty
Cherry Realty - Pick the best real estate in Williamsburg VA (http://www.cherryrealty.com/management.shtml - broken link)

Now if only there's a single mom group to trade sitting and meet people...
