Default Where to move? Too many options!

Hi guys,

So I'm going to be graduating from grad. school pretty soon and I'm looking for places to move. I'm a nurse practitioner and I'm looking for positions in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia. Luckily with my job I can go almost anywhere, which is also part of the problem...I don't know where to go! I'm looking for some place casual and laid-back, preferably coastal and I'd love a town with a lot of history and character. As for size, I'm not awfully picky, just as long as it's got enough going on to offer up a few cultural options, I'm pretty game. I have a young child, not yet in school, but when she gets to that point I'd like to have some options in terms of where she goes; private, decent public, charter, etc.

I know this might be a broad request but I'm looking for any kind of advice you guys can give me. I have traveled (somewhat limited though) in Virginia and North Carolina, but have obviously not been everywhere in every state, so I'm relying somewhat on what you all think!

Thanks so much in advance guys!

I'd say avoid Hampton Roads (Southeastern Virginia). Overheated housing market, insane rents, pretty soul-less region.

Maybe Fredericksburg, VA?

There's one large hospital which has just built 2 new locations built in the last year, and there's a new hospital being built which is supposed to be completed in about a year. With all of the new 'beds' in the area, I'm sure your services will be in gread demand.

With the housing market bubble bursting, houses in the area can be had for a bargan.

There are many good schools in the whole Fredericksburg area, along with some really good private schools.

There's also plenty of history in downtown Fredericksburg, and always different fairs and festivals going on.

It's not coastal though, and may not be as laid back as what you're looking for... but might be worth driving around, and stopping by some visitor's centers to get information. (Or just search the web)

Wow, telemonster! Tell us how you REALLY feel! LOL!

We're in Hampton Roads, and I work for one of the hospital systems. GREAT company! And they're always looking for nurses. We're still very happy here after 5 years. Sounds like a couple others could use a change of pace.

thanks guys, i've been looking online at the places you've mentioned, trying to get a feel for them. it's a little difficult via computer, but hopefully once i get some options narrowed down i can actually travel there and see them in person. thanks again!
