Default Ft. Lee/Petersburgh area

OK, looking for info on the area? I am getting ready to move there and don't want to be too far from Ft Lee, but dont want to live in an area where I am going to get mugged every day, so can anybody tell me where the decent places to stay are, as far as housing? My wife and I and our two kids, both under 2 y/o just want a place to feel safe at w/o spending a million dollars on rent. Thanks a million guys

House, townhouse, or apartment? Chester is close to Fort Lee and you could find some decent options there.

Look at Prince George which is south of the base on I-295.

Prince George, Colonial Heights, and Chester would be your best bets. I was borne and raised around there and it is all steadly getting worse.

I live in Petersburg and love it, but probably wouldn't move here with kids. Well, I might, but I think most people wouldn't and that's okay. Colonial Heights would be a safe bet. The housing prices are decent and you'd be close to the Commissary. Chester is a little farther away but would be fine as well. I prefer to live away from all of the Chesterfield Co. sprawl although the schools in general are pretty good (I teach in one of the high schools).

The houses on post are pretty nice, if you're willing to consider that.
