NOVAnative is on a distinguished road
There are plenty of ghetto areas in the Washington DC Metro Area. I actually can't wait to move further west into Loudoun County. Last time I was in Richmond it was very disappointing to have to make sure one didn't meander into the many bad neighborhoods that surround the few safe areas of the city. The Powhite Parkway was void of any topography. The last time I checked the James was full of raw sewage running down it and the trash being shipped from NYC via rail was being dumped in Richmond. The percentage of 'rust belt' industry screams ghetto and can be found all along the I-95 corridor. Richmond = one big yawn.

Regarding the above poster's previous post, facts are lacking and it is completely misleading.
There is NOT raw sewage in the James (unless there is an excessive amount of flooding), there are wayyyy more safe neighborhoods than not, and what does the Powhite Pkwy have to do with anything? Where is this NYC trash dumped? I'd love for you to elaborate.

Note to ALL contributors to this site. Judging a city from the way it looks from the interstate is very ignorant and shortsighted.

Honestly, this isn't even worth my time. I'm surprised I even responded.

Also, if Richmond is so "Rust belt," why does it have so many fortune 500/1000 companies headquarters per capita? Why is the unemployment rate one of the lowest among large metros in the country (around 3%). Why is the cost of living almost 18% less than NOVA but wages only 6% less? Why are its primary industries white collar? Just curious.

are you sure you were in richmond? you have described what one might see while traveling down I-95 but believe me the area is far far better than the industrial sights from 95, every town which is prosperous has a industrial area, to bad richmonds in view of people traveling through to florida.
and if richmond is a big yawn....what is the gridlock of nova? oh you must have a dvd to watch while waiting to move ten yards lol!
