Default VA Job Resources??

I'm a well rounded, experienced Mechanical Engineer who desperately wants to stay in VA (not No.VA) but I'm amazed to find that people aren't knocking down my door as I thought they would. Granted, I'm only applying for jobs that I would absolutely LOVE and fit well into.... but why should I have to settle you know?

Anyhow, my question is has anyone found any really good resources for career opportunities in the Charlottlesville/Lynchburg/Roanoke areas? I've tried Monster, BlueRidgeHelpWanted, Jobsearch, VA Employment Commis. and others. There's gotta be more stuff out there than what I'm finding! Thanks in advance.

What about a professional head hunting service for professionals in your field? And networking within your professional organizations. Do you have a masters or BA?

Hello!

Have you tried the Roanoke Times online? www.roanoke.com

My husband and I have been trying to get out of NoVA for about two years now and we often check the same resources as you to try to find jobs. The Richmond Times-Dispatch also has a good employment section where you can search for jobs in most areas of VA. www.richmondtimesdispatch.com

Good Luck in your search!

Laura

Hey jballa, visit Roanoke's under-the-radar job networking tool:

http://www.roanokeva.gov/WebMgmt/ywb...e/$youngadults

It's a relatively new effort spearheaded by Stuart Mease and it's already had a number of success stories.

My friend if there is one thing I can tell you about VA is that it is the land of networking its not about where you go but who you meet. my advice would be to join the chamber of comerce. There are so many people there and they all use eachother often lots of big wigs as well as small buissnessses my girlfriends mother went in there just a few weeks ago and got a 3 year 500K contract thats good money even around here. Good luck i think you make it fine around here

hope it helps

Hello,

Are there any experienced RNs or anyone familar with hospital employment laws in VA? My wife is working in a forensic unit in a psychiatric hospital in Petersburg. I'd like to know if there are any ways for her to transfer to another unit without breaking her contract. The reason for the transfer is I have found a job in another city and we would like to move over there in the long run as the overall prospects for us are higher there.

Thanks!

Default Thank you all

Thank all of you for your advice... I will definately check out all of the resources ya'll have recommended. I have been fairly lucky in that I've been offered a few jobs to pick from but unfortunately, now I have another problem... the job I would like (once in a lifetime opp.) is in Hampton and my property that I desperately don't want to sell is in Amherst co. Always something.

Thanks again!
