Williamsburg Airports?
I understand that there are two major airports near Williamsburg—Newport News/Williamsburg and Richmond International.

I'm just curious as to which airport locals prefer and why?
Thanks!

also norfolk
the easiest airport to use is PHF - it has fewer flights, quick and easy in, less time for parking/security. norfolk and richmond same distance, about same time for parking/security. norfolk has tunnel. your flight schedules/prices will determine which airport. such as few non-stoips from PHF so RIC or ORF may have the best non-stops.
all 3 work - you have to search for your particular flights and see which airline offers the best schedule and prices for your itinerary.

I have a family member in Kiln Creek which borders the Newport News airport and they fly in and out of Norfolk. Norfolk has a lot more options for flights.

and Norfolk is a lot cheaper to fly into and out of....the cheapest is Baltimore or Dulles if you want to do some sight seeing on the way

I love the Newport News airport. It is very small, very user friendly, and the closest of the three airports so I request that my company use this airport when they book a reservation for me (every other week) even though it means I am always routed through Charlotte, Atlanta, Philadelphia, or Cincinnatti.
Norfolk is perhaps one of the most beautiful airports in the country and a better selection of flights but the tunnel traffic is a major concern. If you get caught in backed up traffic, you are screwed. Add an extra 40 minutes to your travel time just in case.
Richmond is going through renovations and may one day be a more pleasant airport. I haven't found flights to be significantly cheaper and I only use this airport if I can't manage to schedule an appropriate arrival time through Newport News.
Of course this is just my personal preference and every individual has their own set of criteria. Best thing to do is use a travel web site and compare all three, factoring in travel time, etc. to pick the airport that best suits your particular trip.

Richmond air fares have dropped considerably since AirTran and JetBlue arrived in the market. I've seen roundtrip tickets on JetBlue to JFK for under $80 including taxes and fees.
