Alexandria or Virginia Beach
Ok I'm sure all of you have seen me around this forum plenty of times trying to figure out where I want to move when I graduate college in 2010. Well after thinking and researching for what seems like forever, I have finally officially chosen to make Virginia my home after graduation. Now I need help choosing between Virginia Beach and Alexandria. I will be graduation with a BS in Business Administration with a concentration in Management and a minor in Psychology. I plan to obtain entry level work in the Human Resources field. I want to live somewhere that is safe, has alot to do, I'm only 21 and I'm single but I still want a family friendly environment because I'm not into drinking, clubbing, etc. I'm a strong Christian so good churches are a major plus. I like Alexandria because its close to DC and seems like an awesome place for a young graduate to live and the job market there is pretty good too in my book, considering the economy. I like Virginia Beach because its obviously close to the beach which I love. So its hard to choose.

You will probably have more job opportunities in Alexandria, but I think the Christian population in VB would be to your liking, its presence is well known.

I'm a hopeful 2011 college graduate who lives in Alexandria right now. Personally, i have a similar lifestyle and i dont think Alexandria fits it. Sure the job market is great but having fun here w/o drinking and clubbing will not be easy. Did I mention that Alexandria is extremely expensive? I plan on relocating out of here next year and wont miss this place.
I grew up in the same general area as Virginia Beach (Hampton Roads) and i think it is much more suited for you. Plenty of churches, lots of families, less expensive than Alexandria. Finding a quality job wont be easy but isnt impossible.

I am impressed that you guys seem more focused on whether Alexandria or Virginia Beach have a certain type lifestyle(Christian) than what the real world is like out there as it relates to job opportunities. I didn't know both of those cities were the land of milk and honey. Good Luck in your search!

Maybe Regent University has something to fit your liking. If that isn't christian, well we'll have to drown Pat Robertson!

I used to live in VB. One thing you should be aware of is the transient nature of the area. Though there are, of course, many long-time residents and natives, the large presence of the military does make for many comings and goings of neighbors. I did love it there, though.

Just curious. From where are you moving? What school did you attend? Congratulations, BTW.

Oh I'm sorry, I'll be moving from my hometown of Memphis, TN and I have officially decided on Alexandria, VA. It's only 3.5 hours away from Virginia Beach and so we can just drive there. I attend the University of Evansville and I will be graduating in May with a B.S. in Business Administration with a concentration in Management and a minor in Psychology. I want to work in Human Resources. I'm just planning ahead now. Me and two of my friends plan to move between July and August of next year.
