Default Staunton Virginia School Teacher Murder? Mrs. Shifflet (sp?)

Hello,

I am wondering if anyone remembers a school teacher, Mrs. Shifflet, who taught in the Staunton public schools in the late 1960's? She was my all-time favorite teacher, and I have thought of her so often over many years. After we moved away, tragically, my mother heard that she had been stabbed to death by her husband.

I have often thought of Mrs. Shifflet and what a wonderful teacher she was, beloved by many. I have searched the internet trying to find more about what happened to her without luck.

Would anyone know more about this situation, and/or where I could find more information about it?

Thank You.

That's terrible and I hope you find it isn't true. Being a 26-year teaching veteran (3rd, 4th, and 5th grades), I love it when former students come back to see me or look me up and call or visit. I have attended many high school and college graduations of former students, been invited to a few weddings, and have held many, many babies of my former students. It is such an honor when these young adults tell me how I affected their lives or that I was their favorite teacher. So, I hope and pray that Mrs. Shifflet is still alive after all so you can tell her how you feel....it will make her day! If it turns out that she is deceased, maybe you can do something in her honor such as donate something to the school where she taught - in her name - or write a letter to her and have it published in the local paper...

Good luck to you and I hope you find your answers.

Well assuming she was still living in the Staunton area at the time she was killed you could contact the local newspaper for that area and have them check their records...... you could also check with the local Police department, I cant believe the Staunton area would have very many homicides on record

My brother had Mrs. Shifflet for 2nd (3rd?) grade, I believe, so 1966-1967. He loved her, too.

I am four years younger than my brother so all of the talk about the murder haunted my early childhood. She was indeed murdered (shot? strangled?) by her husband in their yard, if I remember correctly. That may have been in 1969, although the time is fuzzy.

I can find out more from my family. I will try to remember to ask next time in Staunton
