Visiting Virginia & Looking for Small Country Towns
Hey Everyone, Me and my family are taking a little vacation and we're looking for a nice little country town in either Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, or Kentucky. We're aiming for a fun country vacation. Were looking for a town that will have some fun activites such as Horseback Riding, maybe a Rodeo too Watch, a Carnival or just something like that. There will also have too be some type of hotel or motel in the area too stay at, but not too far away form the town in not in it. We plan on taking this trip sometime soon within the next 3 weeks. So any information would be appreciated A.S.A.P.

A good small town w/ lots of fun stuff in VA: I'd check out Luray. Cute little town tucked in the mountains, w/ lots of nearby activities (Shenandoah National Park, Luray Caverns, Horseback Riding, Massanutten Resort/Water Park Nearby, lots of hiking, Luray Zoo, and so forth); If you go, I'd suggest renting a cabin in the Country, preferable on the Shenandoah River. I took my family there a year ago and it was a blast, and if you call in advance teh local chamber of commerce will assist you w/ booking activities you like....You can find more information about Luray by going here:

Luray and Page County - in the beautiful and historic Shenandoah Valley!
Where ever you go, enjoy!

Try princeton in west virginia. It is located just south of the popular Pipestem Mountain Resort in Mercer County.

You should come to Manassas VA. One day during your trip you could take the VRE train down to Capitol Hill in DC. Then travel westwards and do your horseback riding.

As Ichoro mentioned, Ghost Town in Maggie Valley is a lot of fun.
But for the best country vacation you should really go a little bit further down to Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, TN. They have a ton of secluded cabin rentals on mountainsides, horseback riding, helicopter rides, Dollywood/Splash Country, as well as the Dixie Stampede. There's also a ton of other neat attractions and restaurants, Ripley's aquariums, putt-putts, and the tanger outlets in Sevierville. It's THE country/wild west/old-time tourist destination.

I SECOND Pigeon Forge!! I just got back and hadn't been in years...it is so much better now. We went to Dollywood Theme Park and Water Park, Comedy Barn, and Ripley's Aquarium. Some of the hotels even have water slides now. And yes, there are some great cabins to stay at, though we didn't do that. You could spend a week there and stay entertained - easily!

if your into a younger atmosphere the Harrisonburg area is very fun, great skiing, clubs, and a college town. If you like a subtle 3 stop light area with cute shops try Haymarket. 10 minutes puts you to every store and restaurant you want, an hour puts you in DC, but haymarket itself is beautiful. Also try lake anna in Southern Spotslyvania County. Its an awesome lake with beautiful homes, very very quiet area but can also be in Central park or downtown FBurg in about a half hour.
