Question Staunton and massage therapy

Hello soon to be fellow Stauntonians!!! I am relocating to your beautiful and SAFE(LOW TO NO CRIME) town to raise my two boys(12 & 4). We are a single income family who are going to receive a settlement as I was hit head on by a drunk driver here in Virginia Beach. I am a beach native and have spent 6 years(directly out of high school-1996) in Louisville, KY. I had a blast in KY and felt at ease with the many types of personalities and belief systems. I do not believe this to be a barrier for me or my children. We are open to all possibilities. Our life is of a minimalist style of living. I have not raised my kids(human) to be consumers. I do however choose to make sure we do not struggle. Our initial two years should not be an issue, however I am curious about the job market. I have read that it is not stellar by others standards. This does not concern me too much, but I have a few particular quest. and requests.

I am a Nationally Certified Massage Therapist(6 Yrs). I am also a very profficiant office administrator. I have 6 years experience as a Chiropractic assistant. Does anyone know of any chiropractic offices, salons, or office positions avail. by October?

I am also concerned about my 12 year old as he has been diagnosed ED and has a mood disorder. One of the motivations to move to the mountains is to get him reacquainted with nature and the healing powers of cooperating with the land. I had similar problems as a youth(runs in the family) and upon hiking 150 miles of the Appalachian trail(Shenandoah area) in my fifteenth and sixteenth year of life, I found a sense of peace. The city has a lot of negative energy associated with it. Being in the open space and learning about the land and how to live with it without hurting it is a valuable experience and is very helpful in clearing up your mental health.
My question: What types, if any, of school based programs for his needs are intact for the Staunton area? Just now I considered the commute to Charlottesville for mental health services, but I am interested in him going to middle school with his local peers.

ANY HELP OR ADVISE IS MUCH APPRECIATED!!!!

Hi there, sorry to reply so late, I've been busy. I live in Staunton but am unsure of the educational services that would be available for your son. I'm not sure how serious his condition is, but the DeJarnette Center is the only place I know of for youth emotional problems. This might be too severe for your son as this place is more of a childrens mental hospital. I don't have kids so I just really do not know. The job base in and around Staunton is primarily manufacturing, factory, and service and teaching. You might have luck with massage therapy here, but Charlottesville and Harrisonburg are bigger and will offer more in that field. I commute to C-ville with many, many other people from the valley. It's not so bad. I know this isn't much help but saw no one had replied so just wanted to offer what help I could, and welcome to Staunton!

That is very kind of you to make the effort to respond. I am starting to see that the commute will be necessary. I am sure the traffic to c-ville is not as bad as anything in this Hampton roads area. It can take up to an hour to go 25 miles in the morning. Also I am curious about a Realtor or a resource to search for houses for rent. I anticipate on making a maiden voyage there soon. Until I can make it I would love to get talking to someone, so if you have any ideas I would love to hear them! Thank you again for taking the time.

I know several LMTs here in Staunton. There is a yoga/massage studio downtown called Shanti which I think would be a good place to start asking questions as they promote natural healing and might be able to connect you with other LMT's who can help you find job opportunities. Other than that - I don't know about school programs, but you can always go to city hall and ask those types of questions. Charlottesville might be your best bet.

Thank you for your time and consideration!! I will go back in to Shanti and ask. Last time I went in there were two teenage boys who where less than helpful as they were busy texting on their phones. Nice store though.
