Lightbulb Information on Newington Forest

Hi everyone-

My fiancee and I moved to Arlington in July 06. I love Arlington, but we want to buy a house, and Arlington is out of our price range. We've been looking at places in Springfield, mostly townhomes in the Newington Forest area.

Any feedback on that area? It is way more suburban than anything I am used to, but I am a nature lover and we found a place that is right next to one of the bigger forests/ parks in the area.

I commute to Arlington to work and my significant other works in Fairfax city. I know traffic will be a nightmare and Newington Forrest is not close to any metro/ VRE stations. Does anyone know how easy it is to find a carpool? Are their shuttles to the transit hubs?

Any feedback or insight into the area is useful. Thanks!
