Best Virginia 'water' community?
Hi all,
I'm just wondering what you all think the best Virginia 'water' community is. By 'water' community, I mean exactly that, a town/city/village on the water, either a river or ocean. I know 'best' might be a bit of a subjective term, but what I personal intend is a place with a nice downtown, charm, good water access, beautiful surrounding, basically the works. I'm curious to see what everyone will think, so have at it!

My favorite would have to be Norfolk because of the beautiful waterfront downtown. Then Richmond and it's beautiful riverfront downtown.

Alexandria would top my list. Walk along King Street, there are beautiful views of the Potomac with the DC monuments lit up. I especially like the row houses, gas lights and brick sidewalks. Norfolk has definately improved its downtown recently and there is water all around. Richmond is improving also but I don't think of it when water is mentioned.

I second Norfolk. There's water everywhere! You have the Elizabeth River, the James River, the Chesapeake Bay. And the Atlantic Ocean is 20 or 30 mins away. It also has a nice downtown and some cool neighborhoods such as Ghent. I don't live there so not up on some of the other neighborhoods. Williamsburg also might fit, it's close to the James River and 30 to 45 mins from the above mentioned bodies of water. But I really pictured Norfolk when I read your post. Va. Beach fits all the criteria but is basically a county size city with no real downtown, unless you consider town center to fit the bill. Very suburban in feel. In fact it was a county until it became a city in the 60's.

Waterfront homes in Chesapeake
I've seen waterfront homes in Chesapeake that are on sort of like a marshy channel...how long would it take me to drive my boat from my "waterfront" backyard in Chesapeake (say, Mill Creek area) to a water area that is water ski-able or jet ski-able?? 5 minutes? 30 minutes? Any idea?? This will probably help me decide if I want to move to Chesapeake or VA Beach (possibly Lynnhaven or Jonathan's Cove area). Thanks!
