Winchester
The home of Patsy Cline, what happened to the museum they were planning? The Apple Blossom Festival is held there every year. The downtown is coming alive with more housing, shops, etc. It is becoming another outpost for DC
area commuters and retirees. It would be great if a train would someday connect the area with DC. I have heard there are commuters who live in Winchester and work in DC now. The people are very friendly, a mixture of country and big city. A nice place to live in my opinion.

What type of work? Commuting to NOVA is something to consider.
I miss Winchester a bit, and housing is rather affordable now since the market took a dive.
Lot of history there. My Greatx3 grandad was wounded there, and his brother killed in the 1st Winchester. Go take a look around if you can.

Neat area. I love it, though frustratingly conservative at times, but I don't really get into a lot of political discourse with neighbors and such. Some areas around are more affluent than others.

I can't believe what has happened to Merrimans Lane, and the whole Meadowbranch area. That used to be some prime hunting property.

Let me guess. Now it is a bunch of tacky-looking homes for people who want to power-commute to Reston, Herndon, or Leesburg?

Not tacky looking but kind of McMansions on 1/2 acre lots. Mostly doctors because of the convenience to the hospital.

Not tacky, and not McMansions. Many of those are mansions with high quality construction.

Where is your job going to be located, how much of a commute can you stand, and what type of properties or area are you considering?

Historic town. Great fabulous architecture. George Washington was a surveyor first there. Home of Patsy Cline. Huge apple festival. Also a hot Air Balloon Music & Wine Festival in the Fall. Lots and lots of infrastructure changes going on right now as well as a Historic Downtown Renaissance (historical preservation move). Great mountains and scenery for now . . .
Several threads on this topic already so "Search" for the Winchester dialogues. Folks on this forum from those parts seem pretty friendly. People in town friendly enough. Plenty of restaurants, bars, and eateries to choose from and expanding more. My family just bought a house in the downtown area so this former suburbanite will be calling it home soon. Take a trip out here and come visit!
