Default Hampton, Williamsburg, or elsewhere??? Need some helpful advice.

My husband and I are planning on relocating in a few months, probably right after Christmas and need some advice on these particular areas. We have neither one been to VA but have friends from there and like what we have heard. My husband will be working in Williamsburg so we are considering that area but we also like what we have heard about Hampton as well. I looked at VA Beach or Chesapeake but I've heard not to travel over the "bridge" for work. Not sure if that is true or not...

We are both from a small town so we don't necessarily need a huge city. We both like the outdoors and going to parks, festivals, etc. We also have a 3 year old who needs to be entertained.

We are looking for an apartment for around $800/month. I am not sure if this is unrealistic for the area or not. I have heard that Hampton is rather expensive. ??

We plan to try the area our for 6 months and hopefully make a more permanent decision after that so any other area you suggest would be appreciated, too.

For $800 you aren't going to have many good options. Hampton is actually cheaper than Williamsburg. $800 is spmewhat doable in Hampton and Newport News as well. The key to both of those cities is to stay above Mercury Blvd.
