Default Small vacation town?

Me and my friend have lived in North Carolina our entire lives and we're looking to get away to a nice small town for a weekend vacation sometime around next March or April. Somewhere quaint that we could walk around with small cafes and a park maybe. It doesn't have to have anything historical or landmarks or anything. Does anyone know of anywhere nearby that matches this description?

There's too many to mention! I guess for me I would reccomend the town I live in, Staunton. Downtown has little cafes and shops and restaurants scattered all around and small art galleries. Gypsy Hill Park is in my opinion one of the nicest parks for a town this size I've seen anywhere. We're in the central Shenandoah Valley at the intersection of I-64 and I-81. The city's web site is staunton.va.us. BTW it's pronounced Stan-ton. Hopefully other's will offer their suggestions.

Charlottesville has shops, cafe's, great rest, history, lots of wineries/breweries, art etc....there's quiet a few B&B's or you could go the Boars Head Inn right outside the city (real nice) the Omni (which is right on the downtown ped mall with 60 rest's, 7 coffee cafes, theatres, and shopping all with in 10 blocks)

Fall and spring are the best times IMO

I would go to Irvington and stay here: The Hope and Glory Inn, Irvington Bed & Breakfast, Romantic Virginia Country Inn, Chesapeake Bay Luxury Hotel, the Ideal Destination for Weddings and Meeting Retreats

it is a great quaint town/area. and this time of year is a great region to visit. Also check Urbanna for the Urbanna Oyster Festival.
