Red face Relocation/Construction in Charlottesville???

Hi,
Like so many others before me, I am looking for info on Charlottesville. My husband is a contractor has experience with ground up home building. He prefers the challenge of remodeling though and was wondering how the construction/remodeling market was going in Charlottesville. Are there good neighborhoods that offer rent in the up to $1100 range for 3 bedrooms? How is the high school there? I have a daughter in the 10th grade and a son in the 11th. I have heard a lot about the uppityness in Charlottesville, is there any truth to that, because I can't live in a pretentious area. We live near Seattle now and I can't stand the "I'm better than you because I drive a Mercedes/BMW/Volvo". Well you know what, I drive an old suburban (I know gasp!) with peeling paint and a cracked windshield! Anyway, we are a simple family looking for a nice place to live with friendly people without the over the top liberalism and church bashing. Thanks for any info!

Construction is slow right now in Cville - even the commerical at places like UVA. there are many homes that could be, and the money for places to be redone.....but its slow everywhere.

I came from DC, and although you have the professor/doctor/lawyer types (most small upper scale college towns do) there is also a lot of middle class folks and blue collared types....and everything in between...

I think folks look for what they want and see it...I looked for a quiet community, with good schools and low crime, but still had a bunch to offer....Cville has that.... For every Volvo driving wanna be, there's a farmer worth millions in a old Chevy truck...

If you live IN town, I'm guessing you'd get more exposed to the "liberal" side with the college, and the folks living there...if you live in the out skirts (which can be as little as 5-10 miutes...or up to 40 if you want a farmette) but work in town, you get both !!

there's actors, athletes and muscian's that frequate the areas, right next to the plumbers and the students.....don't be fooled, there's some wealth here, but there's also a simple and high quality of life also...IMO
