I welcome all to Hanover county!! Hanover is a great place to live, work and play. We have our issues like every other county in the US. Some people don't want to talk about the tough issues in our county today, but I am not one of them. The continued growth of the county will bring change and development, which many are fighting today as we speak, however you can't stop the hands of time from marching on. I do believe Hanover county will be one of the most desirable places to live in Virginia for all in the near future.

New schools are being built along with new neighborhoods bringing a diverse group of people who are moving forward and changing the old ways of doing things. I realize change takes time and Hanover county is changing slowly, but if we do our best not to ignore what needs to be changed we can create a better future for a county so rich with history and pride.

I think that's a bit harsh. I don't think anyone would view Kings Charter/Ash Creek/Milestone et al, that way. Even 10+ years ago, Chickahominy district was considered nice, even if there was not a lot of diversity. People moved there because, at the time, you could get more bang for your buck. And the schools in that area of Hanover were and continue to be strong. Now, Route 301 on up through Studley, might well be considered country with money. Eastern Mechanicsville is fairly built up, but also has that same country dynamic going on.

No. You're right, we'll have to do that. I am a minority who has had family in that area for almost 30 years. I know what the area was like when it was served by Lee-Davis alone; when there was nothing over there but these few subdivisions, the air park and a tiny little interchange; when it was more rural than suburban. I'm not saying it didn't have its issues (whether from a racial perspective or otherwise) but it was and is a good community. Believe it or not, it has become more diverse. On the other hand, Eastern Mechanicsville, I'll grant you has always been the way it is. Atlee was different.
