I have never been out around the western part like by Kentucky, I visited Charlottesville but that's it. It seems all the populated cities are towards the east. Are there any cities building up near the NC border or way out west? Anything in those areas I should be looking out for in the next couple of decades? Do you think any area will be huge in the next century or so?

You think it could ever look like this out west? I'm not "looking" for a city like this I am just asking what do you think about the chances of it ever happening. Don't take this thread too seriously, this is all hypothetical :P

Beautiful photos you've posted.

I don't see western VA building up a massive city. The current trend post-auto is to divide up large plots of land and large dividing properties between places. So anything that hasn't already been built up, probably has little chance to becoming 'built up'.

If anything, places will become more spread out though...strip malls, highways, and all the other typical eyesores.

Judging by the name written on the building, I suppose the last picture is of Santiago, Chile.

Blacksburg, VA is supposedly a very civilized town (except for the VPI mass murder). About a decade ago, Readers Digest named it as "the most wired town in America" because nearly everyone in town had internet access and used it in creative ways.

That's surprising...I thought they were all South America..and I was thinking I wish the U.S. had as dramatic cities as these ones!

L.A.! Really? Wow. SLC too!

The only populous city in the western part of VA is Roanoke, and it currently has a metro of about 300,000 I think. If we're talking about within the next century, I could maybe imagine it getting close to what Richmond is now. I would assume that the Blacksburg area which has an area of almost 200,000 itself will by then be consolidated into Roanoke's area since they are adjacent to each other and only 30 miles apart.

There are no other populous areas other than that. There are major towns though. If you include the towns and counties, places like Staunton/Waynesboro/Augusta county are close to 120,000, Harrisonburg/Rockingham county around 130,000 and Winchester/Frederick county around 125,000. These #'s are off the top of my head of what I can remember from the '00 census and recent estimates.

And for reference, since you have been to Charlottesville, it has a metro of almost 200,000. Figured that would give an idea on comparison to the areas you haven't been to.
