Do you think the state should get out of the regulation of liquor in VA?
I know in Bristol VA/TN there are more bars on the TN side of the state line because of the state regulation and I understand VA has one of the lowest consumption of booze. Could it be because of the ABC stores? Will we see more liquor stores, crime and will Pat Robertson allow this to happen?

Legal booze maybe...

Virginia moonshine is sold in "after hours" clubs as far west as Chicago.

Reported. Racism is not tolerated on the forum.

It's not racism. It's Federal law that liquor may not be sold on Indian lands. Because of current concerns over alcohol abuse, many tribes are asking the government to enforce it. However, I stuck it in there to see if anyone was paying attention. I don't think it's much of an issue here in VA as it is out West since we don't have large reservations.

ABC stores are a good way to keep businesses from selling to minors. When I lived in DC there were quite a few liquor stores that did not ID the customers if they appeared to be under 21. they did this, obviously, to get more business/increase sales

besides, regulating such a dangerous drug like alcohol is a positive thing imo

NEVER! VA remains one of the smartest states in America. If government should be involved anywhere, it should be in limiting (if not totally eliminating) such dangerous things as alcohol and tobacco, which affect people's health and sanity.

The 21st Century term is Native Americans. We need to restrict the sale of liquor to NON Native Americans as well!

No you're wrong. They mostly call themselves Indians or American Indians. Why do you think it's called the "National Museum of the American Indian" and not the "National Museum of the Native American?". The museum opened in the 21st century (2004) so I'm assuming that's still the preferred term. Also there's the "Bureau of Indian Affairs". You might want to check your facts before you correct people.

These are titles and terms which have been continually imposed by NON Native Americans since Columbus, and which will someday be changed. My experience has been that the prefered reference to themselves is Native Americans.

You're avoiding the REAL question: Why be concerned with imposing regulations only on Native Americans, and not on NON Native Americans?

And if you're only basing your answer on current laws - laws can be changed.

No, American Indian is the English language term they use themselves and we should respect that. Your experience means nothing as it's based on lack of knowledge and does not coincide with reality. As to your second question, as I said before, some tribes are asking that the law be enforced on their reservations due to alcohol related problems. I doubt there is any will in Congress to change the law.
