I have been looking online at homes for sale in Ruther Glenn. For those who live there can you please tell me the pros and cons of this area. Do most homes require a home owners association fee? Also interested in Richmond area west side. Is that area rural, would like semi rural living. I just want info from those who live in these areas, so I can get a better idea if that is truly where I would like to relocate. I have checked out, Norfolk, Va beach and south of the area, not what I am looking for. Roanoke's climate made it hard to breathe so that is off the list also. I am looking for a place with affordable homes and taxes, maybe 1/2 acre of land, a little rural but not far off the beaten path......... any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You'll have HOA payments if you buy a home in Belmont, Lake Caroline, Caroline Pines, Lake Land'Or, Pendleton, or Ladysmith Village. If you're looking for a half acre or more, you're probably not going to buy a home in one of these communities.

'Ruther Glenn' (22546) is a pretty large area, spreading from around Exit 104 (Carmel Church), up to off of Exit 110 (Ladysmith). One advantage is being only about a 35 minute drive from downtown Richmond and the West-End of Richmond. About 45 minutes from the Richmond airport, 20 minutes to Ashland or Fredericksburg.

To throw out a few roads you could look for properties off of, I'd suggest:
Bull Church Rd, Golansville Rd, Cedar Fork Rd, Jericho Rd, CCC Rd, Countyline Church Rd, and Gatewood Rd. There should be several affordable properties along these roads with more than a half acre of land.
