I am planning an RV trip for this spring and will be coming north on I-95 and staying for a few days at Chippokes Plantation State Park.

The most straight forward route would be to go all the way to Richmond, then I-40 east and cross the James River on the ferry, but that seems like its going a bit out of the way.

With so many state roads to choose from south of the river providing a more direct route from I-95 I was wondering which would be the fastest way to get there?

Note that while this is an RV trip and I will be towing a 31' trailer, I don't consider narrow twisty roads or steep grades a problem, so long as there are no bridges lower than 10' I will be fine.
