Well we went to VA this past week. I drove from DC all the way down to Virginia Beach, then back up on 17. I looked at the areas that possible houses. I just do not understand the layout there.

For example there was a house in the Waverly area, I saw nothing of the town except for a few small stores and gas station. This happened in a few of the areas we went to look at up and down both roads, they had very little and some seemed to have no grocery store. Do those towns have little or nothing?

Sure the areas around the larger cities, Fredericksburg, Richmond and etc seemed to have shopping areas and things to do but most of the rest seemed to have almost nothing. Where they set futher back?

I live outside a small town, in our town picture a square, the two main roads that run through it have about 12 restaurants/fast food, a grocery store, pharmacy, 3 gas stations, rec center with indoor pool, movie rental and etc. All the other roads are the houses. If I go 15 mins South I come to a larger town ( but still on the small side) with all that plus a movie theater, Target, Home Depot, another rec center also and outdoor pool, bowling, skating rink and etc. Again easy to understand and get to things.

Are the areas/towns outside of the large cities having to travel to them to get to a mall, stores, activies and such or is it laid out to where I totally missed it all?

I need to be near retail stores for my job and activies such as rec centers, movie theaters and other recreation things to do is important for my teenaged daughter. While I want to live a some acres I do not want to have to go 20 miles to the grocery store or gas station and futher to get to work.

Other than that Virginia is a pretty as I remember it and the people that I spoke to seemed very nice and loved their state. I am so jealous of all the trees you have there! I love the white ones that might have been cherry or pear?

Oh and are all the bay area beaches mainly private? We went to Fariview I think and except for 50 feet of it it was private. I can skip living near the ocean as long as I live near a body of water to sit on the sand and take a quick swim

Well like you said you have to live in or fairly close to the cities themselves. For example here in Richmond area you can live in the Varina/Henrico area and see nothing but farmland in one direction, or you could go the other way and find the new shopping center and RIA.

Most layouts are in clusters. We like our trees, too.
