Well VCU in Richmond has a good nursing school and just adjacent to it is a biotechnology research park. How much is going on there and who may be hiring I couldn't tell you however. We'd need more details as to what you consider "not too expensive" to offer suggestions regarding housing.

I'd say Richmond too. The others are small and jobs hard to find with much competition plus longtime locals seem to be given priority.

I was going to say Richmond too, mainly due to better job outlook in the bio med tech field.
However, if school is your priority, then I would say Charlottesville, just because UVAs nursing program is rated much higher than VCU's (not that VCU's program isn't a really good one).

Don't be too sure about Richmonds' job picture. With all of the state budget cuts and bank fiascos it may lose that advantage really soon. Pretty scary times for job hunters!

Default Roanoke medical jobs

Apparently medical jobs are growing in Roanoke. They recently opened VTC, Virginia Tech Carilon School of Medicine. Working to become the Mayo Clinic of the mid-atlantic. You might want to research Roanoke a bit more. Plus the cost of living is WAY less than Richmond and Roanoke is really nice.
