1996 jetta window wouldnt go up , then it did. Accidently put it down and now it isnt budging. Took off panel, it is not binding. When button is pushed you can hear a click at motor but nothing happens. Im thinking relay or motor? I dont believe its regulator but who knows. opinions appreciated

Sounds like a failed motor. With time and use, they go. A relay would be external, are you sure the click is from inside the motor? Disconnect the leads and use a volt meter to determine if it is seeing 12v or other.

^ What he said.

If you have a simple 12V tester, you can determine if you have current to the motor. Go from there.

I had the same problem on my 95 gti vr6.

The cables on the regulator that make the window go up and down popped out of the tracks and jammed up.

Ill stick with manual windows but it would be nice if the passenger window was powered so I dont have to lean over every time i want the window down

Is the motor engaging? Couldn't tell from your post. Around that time, vw was notorious for using plastic window clips that would fail, and leave windows stuck down - plastic would age and break. Motor would be fine. Tons of recalls to replace with metal clips. Seems like a possibility if the motor seems to be ok.

Try having someone push upward on the glass from outside while hitting the up switch of electric. Sometimes that will work if its the motor going out.
