Ah.... Even if VWs WERE reliable and durable, they'd still be hideous little things with awful-sounding names. What they say about the people who drive them is not pretty. When I see someone pull up in one, the statement I hear is, "I am a truly dinky little creature."

Oh,and back when we were driving pre-Ford Volvos, our mechanics were Germans. They regarded both VWs and Audis as being "disposable, garbage cars". I realize that much has changed (both in the Auto Industry, and in the German Labor Pool). Still, history would lead me to suspect that Volkswagen was made for the 'common folk', who mattered little. And what I'm reading here, and in the reliability ratings, tells me that they still are made for little nobodies, who don't matter.

OP, our kids all drive Lexus IS250s. If there have been any failures at all, they have not told me about them. The kids' only complaints have been about the ridiculously expensive tires they require (They grew up with a 'normal' of our paying $300.00 for four new Michelins for the Volvos.). Anyway, all three of them recently replaced their old IS250s with new ones. At this point, they can afford anything out there, except maybe something totally idiotic like a Ferrari. But the IS is what they want. "They look good. They're quiet. They're smooth. They handle well. The cost-per-mile is really low. Nothing EVER goes wrong. Nothing."

Well... If 6'3" & 250 lbs is a "truly dinky little creature" I guess I was guilty as charged.

I had a 2008 VW Beetle. We were T-boned in it by someone going 55 mph, while we were starting off from a STOP street. Car was totaled. We had to be cut out of it. Both of us had minor injuries. IMO it was a hell of a safe car.

Sheesh, I've got only 1" on ya, but otherwise we're the same.

Some trolls just have to make themselves feel good by trying to put down others. *shrug* I feel sad for them when that's what it takes to try and find happiness.

Uh... I think she was writing metaphorically, not literally about physical size.
