Hello,
I have a 2009 Volkswagen Jetta Sel with 91,000. I have no idea where to start with getting the parts for my timing belt replacement, if it is even a belt... I have searched for hours and found nothing, is it something that I can only get from the dealership? Also what is the average price range on timing? Every time I look it up all I see is about the Tdi.

But you failed to provide the specific engine.
BTW;Continental makes the best belt - kits.

You shouldnt have to replace the timing chain(s) in those engines, ever.

What you will want to change is the guides that keep the chain tight.

theres upper guides and lower guides.

The top guides you can do yourself, and the bottom ones are much harder to get to.

A loose chain sounds like marbles tossing around under the hood. The ECU will compensate for a loose chain to an extent.

Hello,

I use a 2009 Volkswagen Jetta (1.6L I-4). Does this advice also apply to my car as I was advised by my service advisor to replace my timing belt at the next service (90,000 km).

Regards,

There should be a sticker in the trunk, near the spare tire.

Engines with engine codes BAG, BGP, BGQ, BKG, BLN, BLF, BLG, BLP, BMY, BUB, CAVD, CAWB, CAXA, CBFA, CBTA, CBUA and CCTA are fitted with chain drive, which is maintenance free.
