Yea the feul lines on those are a big concern.

Honestly, I wouldnt worry about the brakes or and of that stuff, because its basically a go kart and she need to learn how to drive with manual pump brakes.

She NEEDS to know that the pedal feels a lot different than new brakes and those will lock up if you jam them and will skid on dirt and wet roads.

Also, keep a tool kit and learn how to tweak the engine.

VERY not practical for a young female who will panic the first time it wont start when she floods the engine out.

Those of you saying they are horrible in a crash have obviously never crashed one or see them crashed. They have really good crumple zones and do a good job of protecting their occupants. Seen it first hand a number of times in the past (I've had over 30 air cooled VWs).

They make excellent first cars due to being simple, rugged, and easy to work on, even for a first timer (kid). Spending time restoring one with your child can be one of the most rewarding experiences you can have as a parent, and in turn they will respect the car more and treat it better.
