I also have a toddler and her daycare is in Gaithersburg, but i may have to change it to DC or Silver Spring, because i don't want to pick her up too late. Any suggestions or ideas? I would have to be at work at 7:30am.
Gaithersburg, MD to Veterans Administration Medical Center.

I take 270 to 495 to Georgia ave to Blair Rd to North Capitol st to Irving St when I head there. I don't do it at that time of morning often, though. Daycare in SS along that route would make sense.

thank you DKF747.
I have recently used the metrorail and it took 55 minutes from Shady Grove to Brookland-CU to shuttle bus. The cost of the trip was around $9.00 and parking was $4.75. I basically need a more cost effective and fastest route to Irving Street,NW. Is there anyway i can avoid 270 & 495?

I have tried multiple alternate routes. In most cases they take just as long, but you move more. In this case, though, I do not think there is a better alternative than 270 and 495. All of the other routes are jammed with traffic too. However, I can list some for you to try.

I'm not sure where in Gaithersburg you start from but here are some alternates:

370 east all the way to Shady Grove station. Keep right at the first fork and take that road around the station to Redland Rd. Make a left at the light and then a right at the next light on to Crabbs Branch way. Take that all the way to Gude Dr. and turn left. At the end of Gude dr. turn left on to Norbeck Rd. (rt 28) Take that all the way to Georgia Ave and turn right. Take that to Blair Rd to North Capitol and so on.

If you're in the Kentlands area then just take Great Seneca (119) to a left on Key West (28) and take 28 all the way through downtown Rockville to 586 - Veirs Mill rd. Stay on Veirs mill until it merges with Georgia Ave. and continue from there.

There's some other options but the above two are probably the best options aside froom 270 to 495.

Another option is a bus like Q2 Metrobus, or a Ride-on bus route that cuts across county to Glenmont or Wheaton stations and then hopping on the red line from there.
