Governor O'Malley has stated that he will not sign any legislation that allows for the usage of marijuana as long as he is Governor. Furthermore, during the last session, the House of Delegates voted down a provision which'd legalize marijuana in the state.

It is worth noting that a similar bill is expected to come up during this session in the House so fear no, you guys still have a shot.

But for all intensive purposes, it looks as if Maryland will not be legalizing weed anytime soon (thank god). I guess they realized that I was right (because I'm right 100% of the time) and they also did there research on the issue and came to the conclusion that it wouldn't be alright to legalize weed.

Remember, Federal Law trumps State Law and even though they legalized it, it still would be against the rules.

O'Malley will be governor only for a few more years. I wouldn't expect this to come across in MD anytime soon. Just as we were not among the earliest states to allow gay marriage, we will not be one of the earliest to decriminalize pot.

We should ban alcohol, cigarettes and guns. They're bad for you too.

If O'Malley drinks alcohol then he is a major hypocrite.

Alcohol is far worse, especially that nasty hard liquor.

Typical case of putting your thoughts and needs ahead of others. If you had cancer and had nausea and couldn't eat and marijuana could help you then, just maybe, you might be for the legalization of at least medical pot. If it's someone else that is suffering, so what, right? If someone gets shot then guns aren't the problem, people are. But if someone in your family got shot you might think differently.

There are many people out in this world that are really suffering and it's people like you that are NOT HELPING them to use whatever is available to get better. What business is it of yours what other people do?

He probably thinks it will compromise his chances when he runs for President in 4 years.

You're correct in that legalization is unlikely.

The more important question is whether this is a reasonable approach.

And again, the OP has presented no data or objective facts as to WHY marijuana should remain illegal. An obvious reason would be that relative to legal substances, MJ causes less harm.
