There's also a Green Turtle Sports Bar up in Germantown in addition to Dogfish Alehouse in Gaithersburg.

Yeah Green Turtle is not bad especially on Frdiay nights but Baileys is probably the most livest place in Germantown..catch it on Saturday nights when UFC is on they charge a $5 cover but the atmoshpere is nice.

There is a spot in Old Towne Gaithersburg near the railroad tracks that I hear was not bad either....and oh yeah Baileys is open until 2:00 Am on Friday and Saturdays.

It's completely limited. I think there are two supermarkets that were grandfathered in, but the rest cannot sell any alcohol.

Is Bethesda in Montgomery County? I'm pretty sure there's a lot of bars serving alcohol in Bethesda. Wheaton too is in MoCo if I'm no tmistaken. And there's a few shops in the county that sell wine/beer up to midnight too...liquor's a little harder to find other than county shops though.

In the late 80's and early 90's quite a few of the Hotels had drinking and dancing pass 1 am. The Hilton in Gaithersburg used to be jumping as well as Studebakers (sp) in Rockville, and there was also another club/rest' across from it too. Can't remember the name as it's been awhile.

Just found out the bar at Gordon Biersch in Rockville Town Square is open til 2am.

I also noticed that Joes Crab Shack was open with live music past the closing time that they posted on the web...

Default Reading with interest!

Our last move DH and I ended up in a totally dead suburb and do not want to repeat the mistake. We have been bored to tears as the nearest town with decent nightlife is 45 minutes by car and the highway is VERY heavily patrolled; so even when we do drive there for a night out, we must be extra cautious about going over the legal limit on alcohol- and a bottle of wine with dinner easily puts us there. We are craving a walk to the coffee shop, the store, a little park, and choices for bars & eateries.

We are soon moving again- his job will be in Rockville and I will telecommute mostly, with some travel to north and northwest MD. He prefers the train and if we can get by with one car we can spend more on housing- can anyone, please, suggest an area that combines a walkable, alive downtown area with a reasonable train commute to Rockville ( Research Blvd) ? We have raised our family- not really so interested in "family friendly" but do, of course, want a reasonably safe area.

Ideas, anyone???

It's such a nanny state I left and moved to VA.
Its obvious that you don't know much about bars/clubs/lounges Montgomery County, MD....

Wow, that's crazy.

Sometimes I just don't get the anti-small business laws that occur.
