My husband was offered a position in Hyattsville. We currently live in FL and have a 3 bedroom single family home on 2 acres. We know nothing of the Hyattsville area, we do know that we are going to be looking to rent a single family home (2 kids) or townhouse with fenced are for dogs (2 labs). My husband is willing to commute up to 30 min in order for us to be in a nice safe neighborhood. We need our rent to be under $2,200 a month since we dont know what we will be doing with our FL home. Please give me suggestions on where to look and where to stay away from.

The Hyattsville Historic District is a nice, safe neighborhood with charming homes, a close-knit community, and walkable shops, restaurants, churches and parks. The City of Hyattsville is in the midst of a billion-dollar redevelopment boom, and the expanded tax base has provided for all-new infrastructure and upgraded amenities. Yet, the community is very affordable by Washington standards. It's easy to find rents under $2000/month and you can purchase a nicely remodeled Victorian or Craftsman Bungalow for $250,000-$350,000.
