I am trying to find commute times from Gaithersburg, MD to Fair lakes, VA. Google directions gives the following inf:

Dist: 32 miles
Time: 46 mins
Time (with traffic): 1hr 10 mins.

Could someone give me any info on, how realistic the above commute times are, and at what times (starting at 6AM ?, 7AM ? etc). Any other insight into commuting would be helpful.

Metro seems to be too tedious of a journey.

Hmmm...I used to do Gaitheresburg to Chantilly which is a lil further in an hour but that was a few years back. After 6.30 am in the morning 270 has become a nightmare, so I would say at 7 am it will be cutting it close. After 270, you still have the spur, the bridge and going around Tysons to contend with, unless you go the Toll Road to avoid that.. At 6 am you should be fine with those times...once you get to 66 there is zero traffic going west...
