The wife and I will be staying at the above hotel in March for a day or two. The hotel is on Wisconsin Ave I believe. Would it be worth coming in early on day one and walking around? Any shops or anything within a few blocks of the hotel?

Thanks in advance

There's plenty within walking distance. About a block from the hotel is Bethesda Row, an outdoor shopping development on Woodmont Avenue. It's attractively done and has some high-end boutiques as well as restaurants. However, it's not knock-your-socks-off fantastic. You could probably get your fill of the place within 2 or 3 hours, unless you want to spend a lot of time at the Apple store or Barnes & Noble. If you cross Old Georgetown Road and explore the north side of Bethesda, there are some other cute shops. Storefront space tends toward furniture retailers and restaurants. If you were really trying to stretch things out into a relaxing weekend, you could book a yoga class at Unity Woods and a spa treatment at Jolie Spa.

What I would recommend, however, is to park your car in the hotel's garage and hop on the Metro (station is right underneath your hotel). Within 15 minutes, you can be in Dupont Circle. In 20 minutes, you can get to Gallery Place or Metro Center to enjoy shopping, museums, the White House, and great dining. If you're lucky to be in town while we're having spring weather, a day in DC can hardly be beat.

Mrs. 14th & U has given you some good info, especially if you had not previously considered going into D.C. However, if you've been to D.C. and your question was just specifically about Bethesda itself, I think that there is plenty for you to do and see with an extra day there. Here is a great site for info on Bethesda:

Bethesda.org | Bethesda Urban Partnership

One aspect of Bethesda that she didn't mention is the art gallery scene. There are numerous galleries on both sides of Bethesda (the "new" downtown, which includes Bethesda Row, and the older section known as the Woodmont Triagle).

I would also like to mention that there is a free trolley, called the Bethesda Circulator, that will take you all over both sides of downtown Bethesda. You can hop on and hop off all day long.

BTW, the Daily Grill inside the Hyatt has one of the best happy hours in Bethesda. A few drink specials as well as fantastic appextizers for $2.95 & $3.95.

Thanks for the info. I'm actually a local (NoVa) and we're staying at the Hyatt that night for a banquet in the hotel. Was just wondering if it were worth coming in a little early to see the local stuff.

Thanks again.

Even better than Daily Grill is Morton's Power Hour. Appetizers are $5, beer is $4, wine is $5, and martinis are $7 and the food is incredible. Check it out here: Morton's The Steakhouse - Bethesda. I like Daily Grill ok, but even at happy hour prices, the food is so-so.
