We are considering moving back to the Gaithersburg area after leaving in 2003. There is an apartment community just down the "hill" from the Gaithersburg metro, but when I do a search for apartment communities, I can't find it. It is garden-style, and was quite spread out. Does anyone know what the name of it is? Did it go condo?

Default Are you talking about Shady Grove Metro?

Annbowie, if you are talking about Shady Grove Metro station (the farthest metro station out on that side of the red line, though it is actually in Rockville), there are two options for apartments across the street in the King Farm planned community. One complex is the Huntington at King Farm (always have been apartments) and there is also the Residences at King Farm (these were condos that could not sell profitably so went into foreclosure and are now being rented).

King Farm has a reputation as being a pretty safe place to live (although no where is perfect). Probably the most important thing to know about the community is that part of it falls in the Richard Montgomery H.S. cluster and part of it falls in the Gaithersburg H.S. cluster (MUCH less desirable than R.M.H.S. cluster).

The apartment community I had in mind definitely wasn't part of the King Farm development...it was in the direction of Derwood, and was a several-block walk away. I'm not sure I'm going to figure this out until I'm back in town! LOL!

Are you talking about the buildings on the upper right (maybe near the center) on this map?

i think you might be referring to the homes in park overlook. i think the condos are specifically in the mallard cove section of this neighborhood. if so, yes they have gone condo.

I have been looking into the King Farm apts on Elmcroft Blvd. near the Shady Grove Metro online. On the map, it looks fairly close to the metro and was just wondering how far of a walk it was from the station? Thanks!

Well. You have to cross busy 355. If you cross by the Car Max (near King Farm blvd) it is one block to the parking lot for Metro. It is a short walk across the parking lot to the entrance stairs. You can do it in 10 minutes or less. I sometimes take our van to the Dodge dealer there and we walk to the Metro from there to catch the bus home.
