Yeah, that's the RIO/Washingtonian Center Waterfront in Gaithersburg. It's going to join with the Crown Farm development to make a massive neighborhood with it's own light rail stop on the CCT.

Here are some pics of the water features and bridge because I know the outside is your personal preference:

It's actually way more than 4 years ago; Kentlands been around since the early 90's, same for the RIO, and old town ..well for many years.

Well considering this is about eating at restaurants, I don't see how that is relevant. Have you eaten at these restaurants? What did you not like about the food?

Seriously? What exactly is your definition of "character?" Is character something that applies only to old constructions? I mean, I would take any of these "new" constructions (that are quite family-friendly and walkable) over the stereotypical boring monochrome strip malls that dominate along Rt355.

This thread makes me want to visit Gaithersburg!

There is also:
Downtown Silver Spring
There is a big chain Italian Restaurant (forgot name)
Red Lobster
Moby Dick House of Kabobs
Potbelly
Ben & Jerry's Ice cream
Lebanese Taverna
Some cake bakery thing
A pretty popular Burmese place nearby (name also forgotten)
lots of smaller establishments in the area

There is also
Downtown Annapolis!
You can walk by the waterfront, and I forgot all the names of the restaurants, but there are a lot of good ones and you can sit by the ocean and eat crab and it is fabulous! My favorite activity in the summer!
