Default Germantown, MD

How safe is it? I have been seeing some crazy things on crime reports sites and some other places that indicate it has higher crime of recent years. Anyone live there? Are there apartment complexes/townhouse complexes or streets that should be avoided? Any areas I should look at if I want to live in Germantown?Any and all thoughts appreciated. Thanks!

Dont believe crime reports. There literally is no significant crime in Germantown or anywhere in Northern part of Montgomery County.. Ill say North of Rockville. I've lived here 7 years and Ive never been robbed, held a gunpount, never heard any gunshots unless it was my friends shooting the guns. Seriously there is not one place I would tell you to avoid in Germantown. There are no open air drug markets, no gangs, nothing. Also with the response time of Montgomery County police you definitely dont have to worry about anything

Thanks for the reply I85toGA! That is what I thought! Ya I have heard a few of these "robbed at gunpoint" stories on the forum, and really, that can happen anywhere anytime, just seems they were more vocalized?

I do believe crime reports (as long as it came from formal sources )
Recently I had read many very successful story about FBI work.

Federal Bureau of Investigation - The Baltimore Division: Department of Justice Press Release
More Than 100 Members and Associates of Transnational Organized Crime Groups Charged with Offenses Including Bank Fraud, Kidnapping, Racketeering and Health Care Fraud

FBI ! Good job ! Thanks !

Nah, don't believe those city/county/state/federal crime reports at all...all those crime victims "had it coming" because they weren't "diligent enough."

Germantown is fine, that's the point. We can pontificate on statistics all we like, at a low enough level the differences are negligible.

I lived in Germantown from 2000 to 2003. While it is an upscale community, there is indeed some crime flying beneath the radar. One day while I was on the way to work, a man tried to force his way into my car at the stop light right behind my apartment- in broad daylight at a major intersection in a nice community. The light had just changed, and I floored it. The drivers behind me practically ran the guy over as he tried to open the doors to their cars. This was a grungy looking blond guy who looked like he just came out of the bushes after sleeping in a ditch. It's funny now, but was not then. Reading the police log, I could see that a lot of other minor incidents occurred every day. You'll never see any of them on the news- even robberies- because it would have to be a major event to make the DC evening news. I think the area has a good police presence and most of the people in the area are gainfully employed- but criminals move around, and all the DC suburbs are subject to their visitation. Generally speaking, it did not seem like there was a lot of drug activity in the area, but I would not walk around the neighborhood in the dark either.

I also had the pleasure of living in Montgomery Co. during the "DC sniper" incident. I will not soon forget that.

So basically Germantown is no worse than any Community in Northern Virginia or Houston, Texas........
