The "best thing" is to send your kid to a school where none of the students are in gangs. If you can't afford private school, I would home school or move somewhere else over sending my kid into that environment.

last year I was in Churchill for an event, a big message flashing on the big screen monitor stating bullying would not be tolerated stood out......so it's all over...

How would you know whether or not a kid is in a gang?

Gangs:How to Tell if My Kid is in a Gang

Well, this would be a good place to start. Knowing what kind of people you live around, whose children you are sending your kid to school with, also helps.

Tatts, certain styles/colors of clothing (if you see a bunch of kids together wearing red bandannas for example, chances are pretty good they're bangers), certain graffitti, flashing of gang signs are good starting points.

Some are more subtle, some members will put their crew's ID on their papers (if they turn any in), will refuse to sit near anyone wearing a "competing" color.

We moved here because we just couldn't put our kids in Middle and High School in PG. Elementary was okay, though.
That's North West high school

Almost any public school in the DMV might have a gang issue, but I know NorthWestern was renovated and has decent facilities
