Exclamation College Park - public transit for the weekend?

I'll be in College Park this weekend staying at the Marriot on campus.

I need to get to the Metro to do city exploring of areas. I can get to most areas to at least look by Metro (Greenbelt, Alexandria, Silver Spring). I can't get to Crofton or Columbia though.

I'm thinking of renting a car - as the bus doesn't run that I can find on a Sunday the route I'd need. My local person has other obligations (BOO!) College Park has daily parking which is free on the weekend right?

Since I'd like to see Crofton and Columbia (at least Crofton) what is my best bet for car rental? I'd need somewhere that picked me up or I could get to easily. I'm nervous about driving in the DC/MD area - though I drive in LA and San Diego so I don't know why.

Any recommendations? I mean I could forgo the extra visits - to Crofton and Columbia and just focus on Metro-able areas this go around. If I get the job though I don't really want to be temporary stay'ing somewhere while we look for a place. I thought if I identified some good choices it would be good.

Enterprise is closed on Sunday in that area (never heard of that - it's a car rental place!)

Just rent from Enterprise when you land at the airport.

That's what I was thinking - but I already paid for a shuttle.

I'll figure it out I guess. I can def. rent a car on Saturday - just have to return it that night if the place will be closed on Sunday.

I'm sure the hotel could help you with which firm is nearby.

I took all your advice and will pick up a car at the airport tomorrow. Seems easier. This way I can go up to Crofton (our out to Crofton) on Saturday - may even be able to go into the bay area if I finish early. Nice to do some sightseeing. Unless its raining.

And I almost fainted. 101 degrees tomorrow out there??? Dang! Guess I better get used to it! Here's hoping!

Thanks for the advice all!

I ended up taking a shuttle and not renting a car as they said it might thunderstorm. Since I'm not familiar with the area I don't want to drive in storms like that. Rain ok but tstorms not for me.

However I just grabbed a cab to the College Park Metro today and had a chance to explore several areas. No issues at all.

Tomorrow I managed to snag a friend into driving with me (driving me lol) to Crofton and Columbia to look at places.

I looked at several in Silver Spring today but I decided that area was not a best bet for us. Ditto to Greenbelt. So I'm hopeful Columbia or Crofton will be better options. I want something with a less urban feel - more suburban. Silver Spring was fine and very transit friendly but not quite what I am looking for.
